Cthulhu Saves the World and Breath of Death VII Reviewed: Great RPGs

My dual reviews of Cthulhu Saves the World and Breath of Death VII, two great retro RPGs available as a bundle. Cthulhu, which was developed second, is undoubtedly the better game, but Breath of Death is worth playing too.

Portal: No Escape - Amazing Live Action Portal Short Film

A short post simply to direct (more) attention to Dan Trachtenberg's short film "Portal: No Escape." Go watch right now (on YouTube in HD).

Portal: No Escape

Videos

After seeing Portal: No Escape linked to from well, everywhere, I had to go watch. You should too. The seven minute live-action Portal film directed by Dan Trachtenberg and starring Danielle Rayne is simply brilliant. GLaDOS is absent, but the Portal Gun is obviously not. The film is shot in a somewhat darker, grittier style than the Portal games and includes essentially zero dialog. In another departure from the games, No Escape includes human (as far as I can tell) guards/soldiers.

The directing is great, Rayne's acting is impressive considering she doesn't say a single word, and the whole movie feels like Portal. The animation of the portals and the Portal Gun itself is much better than I would have expected; they really look "believable". The sound and especially the music are superb, which isn't surprising since the composer Mike Zarin wrote the initial Inception trailer music (BRRRRRMMMMMMMM).

In the span of seven minutes, No Escape goes from dark and dramatic to tense action, and the ending is perfect. As the video ended, I was left wanting...more, and I consider that a good thing in this case. The video is embedded below, but I definitely suggest viewing it on YouTube in full 1080p resolution.
